CULTURAL AFFAIRS We will provide means for helping more cultural and traditional awareness for African and African people in diaspora, and in encouraging them in exploring their ancestry and personal identity through the following key areas:.
CULTURAL EXCHANGEThis program will strive to establish strong cultural ties between African nations and the rest of the world, particularly the ethnic African peoples of the diaspora. The main thrust of the program will be to promote African culture and create forums in which other people can experience and enjoy African culture. The Institute will be involved in organizing cultural events that will include seminars, workshops, arts performances and exhibitions, cultural tours, musical shows, and dances. We will assist embassies in arranging foreign art performances and exhibitions.
CULTURAL STUDIESA.I.I will promote international educational experience as a means of furthering cultural understanding and world peace. We will particularly encourage a cross-cultural exchange between Africa and the rest of the world. We plan to achieve this goal partly by encouraging the teaching of African culture in foreign universities; and we will assist such universities in developing appropriate curricular content for such courses. We will encourage a student exchange program to help provide an opportunity for students to gain first-hand experience of other cultures. We will work with other non-profit organizations to help international students link-up with host families in other countries.
ANNUAL AFRICA DAYThis program is designed primarily for Africans living abroad and African people of the diaspora. The Annual Day will be a banner day of pomp and pageantry featuring parades, arts and cultural exhibitions, and speeches, and culminating in a ballroom dance. During the annual gathering, a slate of people chosen by a select committee as having made the most outstanding contribution to the educational, economic, and cultural development of Africa will be recognized and presented with the Director’s award.
The Africa Day celebrations will also include a special invitation to perform to a cultural group of the world community to present the music, dance, and other cultural performances of their native land as a gesture of brotherhood and friendship.
